The MCA has published MGN 601 (M) Amendment 1 to update guidance on crew accommodation standards for new UK commercial vessels under 200 GT, setting out “substantially equivalent” accommodation requirements to those in the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC) Standard A3.1 (such as living, sleeping and recreational facilities) that will apply instead of full MLC standards for these small vessels, superseding previous MCA Codes and clarifying how the standards apply to new vessels built after 7 August 2014 or re-coded after a lapse.
