The UK Government has published a new Statutory instrument (SI) specifying the frequency bands for which OFCOM will grant wireless telegraphy licences, setting out limits on the number of licences available. Under Article 2(1), only a restricted number of licences will be issued for the use of certain frequency bands, while Article 2(2) outlines the criteria OFCOM will use to determine both the licence cap and the eligible applicants.
A full regulatory impact assessment detailing the implications of the Order is available on OFCOM’s website. Hard copies can be requested free of charge from OFCOM’s London office, and the assessment has also been placed in the libraries of both Houses of Parliament for public access.
