MOD Exercises – Exercise Joint Warrior: March and April 2014
The MOD plans to conduct a multinational military exercise between 26th March and 12th April 2014. Areas likely to be involved in the exercise include the waters West and East of Scotland in an area extending from the Clyde Approaches through the Sea of Hebrides and Pentland Firth to the Moray Firth and Forth Approaches and the Irish Sea in the vicinity of Luce Bay.
Exercise Joint Warrior is the largest multi-ship, multi-threat exercise conducted by the MOD in UK waters which takes place bi-annually.
It is anticipated that 1 aircraft carrier, 3 assault vessels, 20 destroyers/frigates, 7 Mine Countermeasures vessels, 3 submarines, 3 Auxiliary Tankers and several smaller vessels will be taking part. Activities likely to occur include:
Maritime warfare
Amphibious landings
Air defence
Gunnery (including shore bombardment)
Anti-submarine warfare
Surface warfare
Fixed wing/helicopter flying operations
Boarding/anti-piracy operations
Replenishment at sea
Mine countermeasures operations
Throughout the exercise all participants will be following RN standard operating procedures and following NCHQ environmental protection guidelines (maritime).
