This Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) publication presents the results of the CAA’s review into offshore helicopter operations in the North Sea.
The review includes studies of current operations, analysis of previous incidents, and a comparison with offshore helicopter operations in other countries. The aim of the review is to make recommendations aimed at improving the overall safety of offshore operations.
It presents several recommendations for minimising – and improving the survivability of – accidents. These include prohibiting flights in severe sea conditions, changes to seating requirements, improved harmonisation of training, and the establishment of high technical design standards.
