The MCA has published amendment 2 to the guidance for shipowners, fishing vessel owners, seafarers and fishers affected by the conflict in the Middle East, reminding the industry that seafarers and fishers on UK-flagged vessels retain their rights to repatriation under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) and Work in Fishing Convention (ILO 188), including when contracts expire, maximum service periods are reached, or vessels are bound for designated war zones that individuals choose not to enter.
Amendment 2 updates section 4, on how to seek support with additional guidance on welfare support for seafarers and fishers along with the latest travel and safety advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
