The Scottish Government held a consultation on proposals to increase the 50 MW threshold in the Electricity Act that determines whether onshore electricity generation applications are decided by Scottish Ministers or by local planning authorities. The aim being to transfer more decision-making to local authorities, boosting local involvement and potentially improving efficiencies in consenting processes for renewable electricity projects.
This consultation closed on 27 March 2026.
