DESNZ and OPRED have updated the guidance section ‘Conservation of Offshore Marine Habitats and Species Regulations 2017’ with a new advisory note entitled ‘Wild Birds (Nesting) Advice Note’.
The note has been published to provide clear guidance during the bird nesting season, reminding people that all wild birds, their nests, and eggs are legally protected and that activities must be carefully managed to avoid disturbing them. It aims to help operators comply with the law by explaining when nesting typically occurs, the risks of unintentionally harming birds, and the practical steps needed to prevent illegal disturbance or damage while carrying out work.
