The MMO and the UK Major Ports Group (UKMPG) are working together through the Ports Sandbox programme to improve the marine licensing process by making it more consistent, transparent and efficient.
Co-designed with industry, the initiative focuses on better communication, earlier engagement and clearer guidance to support both environmental protection and sustainable economic growth.
Early results show improvements in understanding and process efficiency, with plans to expand involvement and develop new tools, reflecting wider goals for more adaptive, outcome-focused regulation highlighted in the Corry Review.
