The Environment Agency (EA)reviewed feedback on its proposal to introduce new charges for assessing decarbonisation readiness (DR) plans submitted with environmental permit applications and for ongoing compliance checks, and despite mixed responses from only nine consultees (some supportive and some critical about clarity and cost), it decided to proceed with the charges as originally proposed.
These fees are intended to recover the full cost of the Agency’s work on DR permitting and compliance assessments for new or substantially refurbished combustion power plants, will be published in the updated charging scheme, and apply from 28 February 2026 without changes to the original design.
