The NSTA published its response to the consultation on proposed new and amended fees for services related to carbon storage and petroleum/gas storage consents, after receiving four responses (mostly supportive with some concerns).
It confirmed it will recommend that the UK government introduces the new fees, which are designed to reflect the cost of providing regulatory services on a “user-pays” basis without profit, and include fixed fees for various well and permit activities.
The response also clarified changes to fee structures such as moving some timesheet-based charges to fixed fees, introducing interim and withdrawal fees for permits, and adjusting how certain review costs are charged, with implementation expected from 1 April 2026.
