The MCA has issued MGN 578 (M) Amendment 3, providing updated guidance on the safe use, installation and maintenance of overside working systems (such as rail, trolley and anchoring systems for working over the side and at height) on commercial yachts, small commercial vessels and loadline vessels; it emphasises that shipowners must ensure systems comply with current BS/EN standards, are installed and maintained per manufacturers’ instructions, and outlines relevant testing, operating procedures and requirements for single-person systems.
