The draft Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Regulations 2025 set out a comprehensive UK statutory framework for the approval, conformity assessment, marking and supply of marine equipment, replacing the earlier 2016 Regulations and EU‑exit amendments, and establishing procedures by which manufacturers must have their equipment assessed by approved bodies, issue declarations and apply the UK conformity mark before equipment is placed on UK‑registered ships, while also detailing obligations for approved bodies, economic operators and conformity procedures in line with retained international standards.
