The North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) has published updated guidance on the application for a carbon dioxide appraisal and storage licence.
The NSTA licenses and regulates offshore UK carbon-dioxide storage, issuing Carbon Dioxide Appraisal and Storage Licences (CS Licences) and storage permits under the Energy Act 2008. Anyone wanting to explore or use offshore geological formations for long-term COâ‚‚ storage must first obtain a CS Licence, and then a storage permit for the operational storage phase. If no permit is applied for or granted, the CS Licence expires at the end of its initial term.
