The Product Regulation and Metrology Act 2025 (2025 c. 20), which received Royal Assent on 21 July 2025, empowers the UK Secretary of State to introduce regulations governing the marketing, safety, environmental impact, and accurate functioning of tangible products, including setting technical standards, labelling, online marketplace rules, and enforcement powers (such as inspections, recalls, fines, and criminal sanctions).
It also grants authority over metrology—defining measurement units and packaging quantities—while expressly preserving traditional uses of the pint for draught beer, cider, and milk. The Act integrates previously separate consumer protection, weights & measures, and metrology legislation into a unified regulatory framework applicable across the UK, excluding specific product categories listed in its Schedule (e.g., food, medical devices, aircraft components).
