The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has published a summary of consultee comments and government responses to the consultation that sought views on four specific measures to enhance the safety of ships. It proposed that these measures, which are obligations contained in Chapter XI-1 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 (“SOLAS” or “the Convention”), be put into law by way of a new Statutory Instrument, the Merchant Shipping (Special Measures to Enhance Maritime Safety) Regulations 2024 (“the proposed Regulations”).
