Ionising radiation: changes to registration and consent processes

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is changing part of its regulatory approach to regulating under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17).

These changes are a result of recommendations made by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). From 1 October 2023, employers will need to submit more information when applying for registration or consent for work with ionising radiation. Also, instead of a fixed fee for consent applications, a fee will be charged to recover HSE’s costs.
