EU Regulation 2016/425 on personal protective equipment and repealing Council Directive 89/686/EEC (link)
These new European Union Regulations repeal and replace Council Directive 89/686/EC relating to personal protective equipment, which is currently implemented in the UK by the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 2002 (link).
The new Regulations are required in order to reflect major changes in PPE manufacturing and technology since the 1989 Directive was adopted. The new Regulations include the addition, and reclassification, of several classes of PPE and now covers the whole supply chain, rather than just manufacturers. It also has important implications for certification, and new PPE certification will be required by the time the Regulations come fully into force.
