MGN 458 (M+F): Accident Reporting and Investigation (link)
This MCA Guidance Note informs seafarers and vessel owners of the requirements of the new Merchant Shipping (Accident Reporting and Investigation) Regulations 2012 (SI 2012 No 1743) (link).
Those new Regulations implement the provisions of EU Directive 2009/18/EC establishing the principles governing the investigation of accidents in the maritime transport sector. The new Regulations include updated definitions of what constitutes an accident and new reporting requirements, as well as setting out the purpose and scope of the required investigation and how such an investigation is to be conducted.
