Guidance On Implications Of The Public Participation Directive (PPD) For The Revision And Renewal Of Production Consents (link)
The Public Participation Directive (PPD) aims to provide greater scope for the involvement of interested parties, including the general public, in environmental assessment procedures. It came into force in June 2005. Implementation of the directive for the UK offshore oil and gas industry required amendment of the Offshore Petroleum Production and Pipe-lines (Assessment of Environmental Effects) Regulations 1999 (the EIA Regulations) and the Offshore Combustion Installations (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Regulations 2001 (the PPC Regulations). Those amendments came into force at the end of May 2007.
Amendment of the EIA regulations has introduced significant changes in relation to the environmental application and approval procedures for requests to revise or renew production consents. The amendment of the PPC regulations involved minor changes and has not affected current application or approval procedures.
